Expressing concern over Delhi’s deteriorating air quality, former IPS officer and former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi took to platform X on Saturday, saying she could no longer bear to see the city suffer.

She said the capital has witnessed a steep decline in recent years and urged officials to walk the streets in the morning to see the situation firsthand. Once in office, she said, they must work toward coordinated solutions.

“I came to Delhi in 1975. I have seen it grow and grow. And now outgrow,” Bedi wrote in her post on X.

She also questioned how officers who work in offices with air purifiers, travel in cars with purifiers, and live in homes with purifiers can truly understand the air quality outside.

Bedi added that many people are currently suffering from chest congestion, runny noses, sneezing, and coughing, noting, “All need healthy air. It’s a right.”

She clarified that her comments were not meant to hurt anyone, but to emphasize the urgent need for solutions and deeper understanding of the crisis.

“Unless those in positions of authority breathe the same air, a sense of emergency will not dawn,” her post added.
